Special Event: Mastering the Arts of the Interview and Networking

Attend the Mastering the Arts of the Interview and Networking hands-on workshop in which you will come to understand the interview process, create an accomplishment journal, comfortably answer the question “Tell me about yourself,” participate in a mock interview, and learn how to “network” the right way. 

This workshop is for anyone who is considering a job change or promotion now or in the future and will be particularly useful for people looking to move into management positions. 

Prepare now by learning interviewing strategies, developing an accomplishment journal using the PAR method, creating customized stories that will help you when seeking a promotion or your next job, networking the right way, and participating in a mock interview.

1.  Mastering the Art of the Interview presentation – 1 hour

• A hands-on exercise: How to answer the question “Tell me about yourself” through creating your personal story.
• Participants should bring their resume and a job description of an internal or external job in which they are interested – 30-45 minutes
• Hands-on exercise: Creating an accomplishment journal – 20 minutes
• Participants should bring in performance reviews and a resume

2.  Networking activity – 20-30 minutes

• Participants should bring business cards to distribute

3.  Mock interview – 30-40 minutes

• Understanding the steps necessary to master interviewing
• Writing customized stories that can be used for internal and external interviews and performance reviews
• Creating an accomplishment journal from the stories that you will write using the PAR method
• Networking by building relationships, not transactions
• Receiving a critique of your interviewing skills from another participant 

During a 40-year career in various industries including higher education, workforce development, insurance, and banking, Linda Luciano, Ed.D., M.B.A., coached, mentored, championed and advocated for senior leaders, administrators, staff, faculty, and students. 

Dr. Luciano served in academic leadership roles including: Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer, Vice President for Planning, Vice President for Career Services, and Chief of Staff to two Presidents. In addition, she served as a Project Coordinator for a Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development federal grant. 

In these roles, she provided direction and vision to staff; assisted in advancing the goals of the institution; and provided oversight of strategic plans and the strategic leadership of business operations including marketing, facilities, information technology services, and administration. She is an accomplished executive with expertise in strategic planning, project management, operations, fiscal management, and policy development.

Linda Luciano earned a doctorate in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, a Master of Business Administration degree in marketing from Seton Hall University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, cum laude, from Caldwell College for Women, which is now Caldwell University. 

Dr. Luciano serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Caldwell University. She also served as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Cedar Grove Public Library and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Urban League of Essex County.
